Tapwrit used a strong push down the home stretch to pass Irish War Cry and win the 149th Belmont Stakes. Tapwrit's jockey, Jose Ortiz, moved the horse into second place during the final turn, setting up the victory in the final meters. Patch finished third.

2016 Belmont Stakes Winner The 148th running of the Belmont Stakes is in the books. The third leg of the Triple Crown ended in dramatic fashion. Nyquist took the Kentucky Derby while while Exaggerator took the Preakness. On Saturday, Creator won by a nose.
Hanging back for almost the entire race, jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. kicked his horse into high gear for a thrilling finish. Creator chased down Destin in the final straight stretch in what became a two-horse race and only edged him as they were crossing the finish line.

American Pharoah is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the American Triple Crown
and the Breeder's Cup Classic in 2015. In winning all four races, he became the first horse to win the "Grand Slam" of
American horse racing.
He was voted the 2015 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year and the 2015 Eclipse Award Champion three-year-old.
He now stands a stud at Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

California Chrome had a chance to complete the third leg of the Triple Crown after his victories in the 2014
Kentucky Derby and the 2014 Preakness Stakes. However it was Tonalist who won the race.

Belmont Stakes was the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes,
the third jewel in the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
For the third consecutive year, the race was run without the Triple Crown
being at stake as 2013 Kentucky Derby Winner Orb was defeated in the
2013 Preakness Stakes by Oxbow.
The race was won by Palace Malice in 2:30.70. Oxbow finished second
and Orb third.
